3D SCANNING
Turn a physical part into a usable 3D model
Choose the Level of Digital Detail
Option 1
Precision Mesh Model
A high-resolution 3D scan capturing the exact geometry of your part.
You receive a cleaned and processed mesh model suitable for:
- 3D printing
- Reference geometry
- Reverse engineering workflows
- Further CAD development
Files supplied: STL & OBJ format.
Option 2
Full-Colour Textured Model
A detailed 3D model capturing both geometry and surface colour information.
You receive a textured digital model that visually represents the original part, including surface markings and colour variation.
Files supplied: OBJ, MTL, and associated texture image files (PNG).
Delivered ready for use in standard 3D software and visualisation tools.
ADDITIONAL ADD-ON
Parametric CAD Model
The scan data is remodelled into a clean, editable solid model suitable for modification, dimension control, and manufacturing workflows.
This is a reverse-engineering service, not a simple file conversion.
Files supplied: STEP format (3MF available if required).
HOW IT WORKS
Ideal For
3D scanning is a practical solution when you need to digitally capture an existing physical part.
This service is particularly suited to:
- Replacing discontinued or broken components
- Capturing legacy parts before redesign or modification
- Preparing geometry for reverse engineering
- Producing small batches of hard-to-source items
- Creating digital backups of sentimental or rare objects
- Generating visual models for presentation or marketing
If dimensional control or design changes are required, a parametric CAD model can be added to the workflow.
Technical Considerations
3D scanning captures the physical condition of the original part at the time of scanning. Surface finish, reflectivity, and part complexity can influence the final result. Fine internal features or hidden geometry may not always be fully captured.
Mesh outputs reflect the scanned surface and are not certified dimensional measurements. Where precise tolerances or design modifications are required, a parametric CAD model is recommended and can be discussed during the quote stage.
